Axie Infinity players can win Smooth Love Potion (SLP) tokens as rewards in adventure or battle mode. Smooth Love Potion tokens can be used to create new Axies or digital pets. Before the token update to the Ronin blockchain, it was known as Small Love Potion.

The cost of breeding begins at 100 SLP and rapidly rises, reaching 200 SLP for the second breed, 300 SLP for the third, 500 SLP for the fourth, 800 SLP for the fifth, and 1,300 SLP for the sixth. Axies can only be bred seven times, and the seventh breed costs 2,100 SLP. This limit exists to prevent market hyperinflation.

SLP paved the way for the notion of Play-to-earn, which popularized Axie Infinity games among players who want to earn money or participate in DeFi. It is particularly popular in nations such as the Philippines.

Aside from SLP, Axie Infinity offers a governance token called AXS that players may use to vote on the game's future development.
