About io.net (IO)
What Is io.net (IO) and How Does It Work?
io.net (IO) is a decentralized GPU compute network built to power artificial intelligence, machine learning, and other high-performance workloads. Instead of relying on centralized cloud providers, io.net aggregates idle GPUs from data centers, crypto miners, and individuals, making them available through a shared marketplace. This approach lowers barriers for developers and delivers access to scalable compute resources at significantly reduced costs compared to traditional providers.
The network operates on a decentralized physical infrastructure (DePIN) model. GPU providers contribute their hardware, while developers and enterprises rent this compute power for training or inference tasks. A smart orchestration layer matches jobs to the most suitable GPUs, ensuring performance, uptime, and reliability. Providers are rewarded in IO tokens, while staking and slashing mechanisms keep the system secure and efficient.
The IO token is central to the ecosystem. It is used for payments, rewards, staking, and governance, with a capped total supply of 800 million tokens. As demand for AI compute grows, io.net aims to democratize access to high-end GPUs, making AI development faster, more affordable, and open to a wider community of innovators.
When Did io.net Launch?
io.net (IO) traces its roots to IO Research, founded to build decentralized infrastructure for AI. The project raised a $30 million Series A in March 2024 to accelerate development and deploy its GPU network. The IO token’s Token Generation Event (TGE) occurred on June 11, 2024, via a Binance Launchpool listing.
Over time, leadership evolved: co-founder Tory Green initially served as COO and later CEO in mid-2024, and in April 2025 he transitioned to Chair of the io.net Foundation while Gaurav Sharma (formerly CTO) became CEO to drive the next phase.

What Is the IO Token Used for?
The IO token is the native utility asset of the io.net ecosystem. It serves as the medium of exchange for paying GPU providers, rewarding node operators, and covering network fees. Users stake IO to secure the network and ensure reliability, while slashing mechanisms penalize poor performance.
The token also underpins governance, giving holders a voice in network upgrades and future roadmap decisions. As adoption of decentralized AI compute grows, IO’s role as both a payment and incentive layer makes it central to io.net’s long-term value proposition.
You can trade IO tokens directly on the BingX Spot Market, where IO/USDT and other pairs provide deep liquidity for buying or selling. Simply deposit USDT or other supported assets, navigate to the IO trading pair, and place a market or limit order to execute your trade instantly.
What Is io.net Tokenomics?
The IO token has a fixed maximum supply of 800 million, ensuring long-term scarcity. At launch, 500 million tokens were minted as the genesis supply, while the remaining 300 million will be emitted over time as rewards for GPU providers and stakers. Distribution follows a 20-year schedule, with hourly reward emissions starting at around 8% annual inflation in Year 1 and gradually decreasing by ~1.02% each month until the cap is reached.
To balance supply growth, io.net also uses a programmatic burn mechanism, where part of the network’s revenue is used to buy back and burn IO. The burn amount is adjusted dynamically based on IO’s price, creating deflationary pressure and aligning incentives between compute users, providers, and token holders. This system ensures that the token remains central to payments, rewards, and governance in the network.
How Does io.net Compare to Other DePIN Projects?
While many DePIN networks focus on storage, connectivity, or heterogeneous compute, io.net is uniquely GPU-centric: it’s built specifically for AI, ML and high-performance workloads. That specialization enables tighter optimization for GPU clusters, task orchestration (using Ray), and workload matching, rather than trying to support a broad spectrum of infrastructure types. In contrast, projects like Akash Network and Render support a mix of CPU and GPU tasks (or more general compute), often via a marketplace/auction model that can lead to variability in pricing and resource allocation.
Because io.net focuses on GPU DePIN, it claims advantages in cost, latency, and suitability for AI workloads, such as deploying clusters in ~90 seconds and leveraging underutilized GPU capacity from mining farms or data centers. However, this narrower focus also means io.net competes primarily in the GPU/AI niche rather than diversifying across infrastructure types. Some competing DePINs or decentralized compute networks may offer broader resource types, more mature ecosystems, or different pricing/market mechanics (e.g. bidding, hybrid models) to appeal to a wider range of use cases.
What Blockchain Network Does io.net Operate on?
io.net operates on the Solana blockchain, leveraging its high throughput, low fees, and scalability to coordinate decentralized GPU resources efficiently. By building on Solana, io.net can handle fast task scheduling, micro-payments for compute usage, and real-time verification of GPU providers. This integration allows the network to deliver AI and machine learning compute workloads at lower costs while maintaining security and transparency.
How to Store IO Tokens Securely
The easiest and most convenient way to store IO tokens is directly on BingX. By keeping your tokens on BingX, you can quickly access trading pairs, use platform features like spot and futures trading, and benefit from BingX’s security framework, which includes Proof of Reserves (PoR) verified by Mazars and the BingX Shield Fund for added protection. This option is ideal if you plan to trade IO frequently or want seamless integration with the BingX ecosystem.
For users who prefer full self-custody, IO tokens can also be stored in Solana-compatible wallets, such as Phantom, Solflare, or Ledger hardware wallets. These wallets give you complete control over your private keys and provide strong security when combined with safe practices like seed phrase backup and two-factor authentication. While this method requires more responsibility, it’s a good choice for long-term holders or those who prioritize maximum control over their assets.
Is io.net (IO) a Good Investment?
io.net (IO) stands out as a potential investment because it sits at the intersection of two major growth trends: DePIN and artificial intelligence compute demand. By aggregating idle GPUs into a global network, io.net provides cheaper, faster, and more accessible compute power for AI and machine learning, addressing one of the industry’s biggest bottlenecks.
The IO token is central to this ecosystem, driving payments, staking, and governance, while a capped supply of 800 million adds scarcity. As adoption expands and more developers and GPU providers join the platform, IO’s value proposition strengthens, making it attractive for investors seeking exposure to the convergence of AI and Web3.
