About Golem (GLM)
Golem is the first open-source fully-decentralized supercomputer to create a global market for high computing energy. Powered by its native utility cryptocurrency, GLM, Golem seamlessly combines flexible developer tools securely and safely. Golem distributes these tools and monetizes the developers' software. By executing several asynchronous tasks and powering decentralized microservices Golem is on track to become a fundamental building block for futuristic Internet Service Providers (ISP) and software development.
By substantially reducing the cost of computations processed, Machine Learning, scientific calculation, and complex applications (such as CGI rendering) become accessible to every user of the Golem project. Golem easily connects computers in a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networking system that enables individual users and application owners to rent resources of other Golem users' machines. The resources can be utilized to perform tasks that require capacity and any amount of processing time. Such resources are also released by centralized cloud providers which are limited by proprietary payment systems, closed networks, and hard-coded operations.
Golem's Features and Updates
A fundamental built-in Golem feature is a dedicated Ethereum-based system that is specialized in performing transactions, enabling direct payment between providers, requesters (purchasers), and software developers. The Golem Peer-to-Peer (P2P) network intends to be built on a continuation of the Developed Peer-to-Peer (devP2P) protocol series. The set devP2P series was spearheaded at the Ethereum Foundation and will experience improvements in modularity, latency, robustness, the inclusion of suitable IPFS and libP2P standards, and confidentiality.
Golem aims to take certain measures to achieve resilience. To begin with, signed and encrypted messages in the Golem network will ensure authenticity to protect data against passive data collection and intermediary attacks. Computation will take place in isolated environments. These environments will possess few privileges and lack external network connectivity.
Whitelist and blacklist mechanisms will allow providers to create trust networks and run only the applications that have been prepared by trusted developers. Reputation systems will also be included to help detect malicious nodes and mitigate them. The Ethereum integration in Golem will make payment-based security mechanisms possible. Finally, security audits will be carried out for each release made by external contractors.
