Anglo American in talks to sell 85% of De Beers for about US$1 billion
Anglo American is in discussions to sell its 85% stake in De Beers for about US$1 billion, far below the diamond company’s former valuation. The proposed structure includes US$750 million upfront and US$250 million later, with additional payments tied to future performance. Over the past three years, Anglo has written down De Beers three times, cutting its carrying value to US$2.3 billion. Global Diamond Consortium plans to invest approximately US$500 million into De Beers after the acquisition.
