Judge allows Strike 3 Holdings lawsuit alleging Meta torrented 2,300+ adult films for AI training
A U.S. federal judge rejected Meta’s bid to dismiss a copyright lawsuit brought by Strike 3 Holdings and Counterlife Media, allowing the case to move forward. The companies allege that Meta used BitTorrent to illegally download more than 2,300 adult films between 2018 and 2025 to train its AI models. The plaintiffs are seeking damages of up to $359 million. The ruling adds to legal and reputational pressure on Meta as copyright disputes over AI training data move deeper into court proceedings.
