Mt. Gox ex-CEO proposes Bitcoin hard fork to reclaim 79,956 BTC from decade-old hack
Former Mt. Gox CEO Mark Karpelès has put forward a hard fork proposal aimed at recovering 79,956 Bitcoin, worth more than $5.2 billion, that were stolen from the exchange and have remained in one address for over 15 years. He submitted the plan on GitHub to change Bitcoin’s consensus rules so the coins could be moved to a recovery address without the original private key, a move that has sparked intense debate over Bitcoin’s immutability.
