Norfolk Southern has signed a contract with Wabtec to modernize 33 DC-traction Evolution Series locomotives. The units will be converted to ES44ACM models, with upgrades aimed at improving tractive effort and adhesion, particularly under demanding operating conditions. The locomotives were originally launched in 2004, and Norfolk Southern was the first railroad to put the model into service.
