Reuters poll: 70% of economists see no Fed rate cuts before 2027
June 9 — A Reuters survey of 102 economists suggests the Federal Reserve is likely to keep its benchmark interest rate unchanged through the end of 2026. Seventy-two respondents, about 70%, expect the rate to stay within the current 3.50%–3.75% range, up sharply from last month when fewer than half held that view, and from roughly one-third earlier.
The poll was conducted June 4–9. All participants agreed the Fed will not deliver a rate cut following the June 16–17 Federal Open Market Committee meeting, the first chaired by new Chair Kevin Warsh.
Economists also expect this month's policy statement to move away from the Fed's prior dovish tone. Many institutions have delayed expectations for rate cuts to 2027 or removed them altogether, with only a small number arguing the next move could be a rate hike.
