Humanity Protocol hit by private-key compromise; H token tumbles about 90%
Humanity Protocol has suffered a security breach that has pushed estimated on-chain losses above $30 million, according to CoinDesk.
On-chain analytics firm Lookonchain said losses from the incident have surpassed $30 million. On-chain analyst Specter previously reported that assets from at least 17 wallets holding H tokens were drained, initially putting losses at more than $19 million before revising the figure higher. The stolen funds have been traced to multiple suspected attacker addresses.
The project said a private key held by a member of the Humanity Foundation was compromised, though it has not yet provided a final technical conclusion on the root cause. The team added that the attacker has been repeatedly selling H tokens and converting proceeds into ETH, keeping persistent pressure on the token.
After the news broke, H fell roughly 90% in trading, with market selling accelerating as holders also rushed to exit.
Humanity Protocol urged users not to interact with any bridging tools or liquidity pools until the official risk warning is lifted. The team said it is working with security experts and exchanges to assess the full impact and harden affected systems.
The project also warned that impersonation accounts and scam messages often appear after incidents. It said official updates will only come from the Humanity Protocol account or cofounder Terence Kwok, and that it will never initiate direct messages or request seed phrases or private keys.
